If you’re looking to get a website up and running for the first time, then things have never been better than right now. Here in 2019, there are a lot of great options for web hosting and creating your first website. Let’s take a look at some of my recommendations.
Website Builders
If you’d like the easiest solution to getting web hosting, you can use one of the many website builder options available. With a website builder plan, your web hosting is included so you don’t have to worry about making a separate purchase.
GoDaddy GoCentral
- Easier Website Creation Process
- Easy to Add More Functionality to Your Website
GoDaddy offers a wide range of web hosting and domain name services. Their GoCentral website builder is targeted as a viable alternative to Wix and the other well know site builders.
From a beginner’s standpoint, GoCentral may be easier to use than Wix—at least that’s what I thought when testing in out. In fact, GoDaddy advertises GoCentral as being a way to create a website in under an hour—which I found to be true. I also found it easier to add more functionality with their section components.
Where I would give Wix the advantage is in website design. Wix offers far more website templates that are better looking in my opinion. So, it’s really a trade-off between easier site creation or more advanced looking web design.

Remixer
- Easy and Quick Website Creation
- Ability to Export Site to WordPress
Remixer is DreamHost’s contribution to the website builder arena. And like GoCentral, I found it slightly easier to use than Wix. Again, you don’t have as many options when it comes to website design. However, the big advantage with Remixer is that you can later export it to WordPress should you decide to switch over to that platform.

Traditional Web Hosting
While there are many advantages for beginners in using a website builder package, you don’t get the flexibility and control that a traditional web hosting plan provides. With a web hosting plan, you can utilize WordPress or another content management system, as well as all of the other web application tools your web host provides.
With a traditional hosting plan, you aren’t limited to what type of website you can create. And, you have and can maintain ownership of your site.
Because traditional web hosting companies have realized the popularity of website builders, they have continually made it easier to create websites—especially when it comes to WordPress.
Besides the major content management systems like WordPress, Joomla, and Drupal, traditional web hosting companies also include many other web applications—and often their own custom website builders.
