SiteGround vs HostGator (March 2024) – “What’s the Bottom Line?”

SiteGround Review Rating
HostGator Hosting Rating

While HostGator has made some improvements, SiteGround continues to be a much better option for web hosting in our opinion. SiteGround’s managed hosting features and proprietary technologies provide superior performance. And when it comes to customer support, SiteGround still outperformed HostGator in our testing. When comparing SiteGround and HostGator, we find that SiteGround continues to provide much better value. And, when it comes to WordPress hosting, we believe SiteGround is definitely the better option.

SiteGround and HostGator both offer a similar lineup of web hosting plans. I’ve been a customer of both companies, so I’ve got first-hand experience using their services. At one time, I would have said HostGator was the favorite here. But as of now, I would give SiteGround as my preference between the two.

SiteGround vs HostGator: Website Speed

While it’s a bit closer than it used to be, SiteGround is still consistently faster than HostGator. In our website speed testing, SiteGround posted better results. My personal websites also run faster using SiteGround. Below are some sample speed test results via GTmetrix.

SiteGround Speed Test Results

HostGator Speed Test Results

Although both of these web hosts have hosting plans that contain useful features, SiteGround provides much better value while including their SuperCacher technology for better speed and premium security backup. We also like that you get free CloudFlare CDN. And, SiteGround is equally good for WordPress, Joomla, or Drupal websites.

While both SiteGround and HostGator offer live chat support (which is always a good thing), SiteGround’s response time is far superior to HostGator. In fact, I would definitely rate SiteGround’s customer support higher than HostGator’s support. HostGator does have a longer money back guarantee period of 45 days as opposed to 30 days at SiteGround.

We like that SiteGround and HostGator both provide cPanel as your account panel interface. But overall in terms of website performance, backup and restore policies, customer support, and hosting plan features, we would give SiteGround the advantage when compared to HostGator.
