Bluehost Pricing – Is it Fair?

Bluehost Pricing

Bluehost Pricing and Review

How much does Bluehost cost? Is it worth the prices they charge? In this article on Bluehost pricing, we take an in-depth look at their hosting plans and services. Let’s take a look at each of the hosting platforms at Bluehost and see what you get for the price you pay.

Bluehost Pricing: Shared Hosting

Bluehost Shared Hosting
Bluehost Shared Hosting is perfect for new website owners—particularly if you’re using WordPress. Bluehost is one of only three web hosting companies that are specifically recommended by WordPress.org (DreamHost and SiteGround are the other two).

Bluehost has always provided one of the easiest to use control panel interfaces, and they have also extended this customized user interface to their WordPress users. Additionally, Bluehost has greatly improved their customer support response times via live chat.

Bluehost Shared Hosting Features

Bluehost Shared Hosting Pricing
Bluehost currently has four different Shared Hosting plans: Basic, Plus, Choice Plus, and Pro.

Basic $2.95 mo.
The Bluehost Basic (or entry level) Hosting Plan lets you host a single website with unmetered bandwidth and 50 GB of SSD storage.

Plus $5.45 mo.
With the Bluehost Plus Plan, you can host an unlimited number of websites with unlimited SSD storage and unmetered bandwidth. You can also have an unlimited number of parked and subdomains.

Choice Plus $5.45 mo.
The Bluehost Choice Plus Plan also lets you host an unlimited number of websites with unlimited SSD storage and unmetered bandwidth. This plan is basically the same as the Plus Plan with the addition of Domain Privacy and CodeGuard Site Backup. Although the initial price for Choice Plus is the same as the Plus Plan, the renewal rate may be higher.

Pro $13.95 mo.
The Bluehost Pro Plan is their top-of-the-line Shared Hosting plan that not only includes the unlimited features and extras you get with the Choice Plus Plan, but you also get a higher performance server and a dedicated IP address.

Benefits of Bluehost Shared Hosting

Bluehost has done an excellent job of simplifying their Shared Hosting platform to make things easier for beginners while still providing advanced features and performance options for experienced users and established websites.

Customized cPanel Interface
While cPanel is already the most popular web hosting interface, Bluehost has taken it to another level by providing their own customized cPanel that makes working with your hosting account even easier.

WordPress.org Recommended
Bluehost is recommended by WordPress.org, and they are one of the best choices for new WordPress users. Bluehost will not only pre-install WordPress for you, but they also provide two different website builder options for creating your first WordPress site. Both methods allow you to quickly and easily get your website online. And, besides their customized cPanel, with Bluehost you also get their customized WordPress dashboard that simplifies working within WordPress even more.

Security and Speed
With Bluehost Shared Hosting, you also get free SSL and free Cloudflare CDN. The free Let’s Encrypt SSL Certificates are installed automatically. The Auto SSL functionality at Bluehost is very efficient and I have not experienced any issues here.

With the free Cloudflare CDN, your websites can load faster even if your visitors are scattered around the globe. The content delivery network is especially useful if your website has a lot of static content such as images and graphics.

Responsive Customer Support
Bluehost actually has one of the most responsive customer support teams—especially via live chat. You usually get connected to a support agent very quickly and I have found the support team to be very courteous and helpful.

How Does Bluehost Shared Hosting Compare to Others?

So, how does Bluehost match up to comparable shared hosting plans offered by other hosts? As it turns out, they compare very favorably in most cases. The introductory prices at Bluehost are low and renewal rates are on point with other established hosting companies. I would particularly recommend Bluehost over other web hosts for new website owners for the reasons I mentioned above.

Bluehost vs DreamHost
Bluehost and DreamHost are two of the most established and well-known web hosting companies. Bluehost is part of the Endurance International Group while DreamHost continues to operate as…

Bluehost vs GoDaddy
Bluehost and GoDaddy are definitely two of the most established and best known web hosts in the industry. Which one should you choose…

Bluehost vs HostGator
The web hosting by these two is not the same—contrary to what many believe. Let’s see how Bluehost and HostGator match up…

Here is a list of how Bluehost pricing compares to other shared web hosting providers:

Web Host Price
Bluehost $2.95 mo. – $13.95 mo.

Bluehost Pricing: WP Pro WordPress Hosting

Bluehost WP Pro
While Bluehost’s Shared Hosting is fine for most WordPress site owners, if you need additional power and resources for an established WordPress website, then the WP Pro hosting platform is a better solution.

Bluehost Product Manager Mike Hansen and his team developed the WP Pro platform to include optimized WordPress performance along with tools for SEO, email marketing, and social media so you can really take your WordPress sites to the next level.

Bluehost Optimized WordPress Hosting Features

Bluehost WP Pro Pricing
Bluehost WP Pro WordPress hosting is available in 3 different plans: Build, Grow, and Scale.

Build $19.95 mo.
The Bluehost Build WP Pro Plan allows you to host unlimited websites, with unlimited storage. There are no traffic limits and no overage charges. You get a website staging environment that allows you to test and preview changes before moving them to your production site. Free SSL and Cloudflare CDN are also included.

Other features you get with the Build plan are daily scheduled data backups, Jetpack site analytics, over 100 free WordPress themes, and the marketing center where you can monitor your website and social media traffic.

Grow $29.95 mo.
The WP Pro Grow Plan includes everything in the Build Plan plus Jetpack Premium, SEO Tools, business review tools, video compression, and website design ticket support.

Scale $49.95 mo.
The WP Pro Scale Plan includes advanced features and is geared for eCommerce websites. Along with everything in the Grow Plan, you also get Jetpack Pro, unlimited data backups and restores, PayPal integration, advanced website search filtering, and website design chat support.

Benefits of Bluehost WP Pro

While the Shared Hosting at Bluehost is fine for many website owners, WP Pro focuses on providing even better website performance and better website marketing. Load times are optimized and you have more resources with fewer customers on each server.

But since performance is only part of having a successful website, Bluehost also includes SEO, email marketing, and social media tools with your WP Pro hosting plan. And with the Marketing Center dashboard, you can keep track of your SEO, website traffic, keywords, content improvement, and social media posts.

As you would expect with a managed WordPress hosting plan, WP Pro includes automatic WordPress updates so you don’t have to worry about having the latest version of the core product or plugins.

How Does Bluehost Optimized WordPress Hosting Compare to Others?

Pricewise, WP Pro compares favorably to other managed WordPress hosting plans. It isn’t the cheapest nor the most expensive managed hosting option. The one big advantage you get with WP Pro is that even with the entry level Build plan, you can host an unlimited number of WordPress sites. With most other managed WordPress plans, you’re limited to a fixed number of websites.

Bluehost WP Pro vs SiteGround

How does Bluehost WP Pro compare with SiteGround? Both Bluehost and SiteGround are recommended by WordPress.org. In recent years, SiteGround has moved more and more from a cPanel hosting provider to a managed WordPress host.

Here’s how they compare by price (Signup Price / Renewal Price):

Bluehost SiteGround
Build $19.95 mo. / $29.99 mo. StartUp $6.99 mo. / $14.99 mo.
Grow $29.95 mo. / $39.99 mo. GoBig $9.99 mo. / $24.99 mo.
Scale $49.95 mo. / $59.99 mo. GoGeek $14.99 mo. / $39.99 mo.

As you can see, SiteGround’s introductory prices are lower, however their renewal rates do increase. While Bluehost WP Pro does appear more expensive at first glance, keep in mind that with Bluehost you have host unlimited websites with all of their managed WordPress hosting plans. SiteGround’s StartUp plan limits you to a single website. Also, unlike SiteGround, Bluehost WP Pro has no storage or monthly visit limits.

Overall, when it comes to features, it’s a pretty close call here. SiteGround is impressive on the performance end, however Bluehost WP Pro provides a more complete package for website success.

Bluehost WP Pro vs GoDaddy

For standard Shared Hosting, I would definitely recommend Bluehost over GoDaddy. When it comes to managed or optimized WordPress hosting, again I would choose Bluehost.

All of GoDaddy’s optimized WordPress hosting plans allow hosting for only one site—even their more expensive plans. While most of the features are appropriate for a managed WordPress hosting plan, GoDaddy isn’t always forthcoming about their server configurations, so you might not be sure what type of performance you’ll get. Also, GoDaddy’s customer support can be inconsistent at times.

Here’s how Bluehost WP Pro and GoDaddy compare by price (Signup Price / Renewal Price):

Bluehost GoDaddy
Build $19.95 mo. / $29.99 mo. Basic $6.99 mo. / $9.99 mo.
Grow $29.95 mo. / $39.99 mo. Deluxe $9.99 mo. / $14.99 mo.
Scale $49.95 mo. / $59.99 mo. Ultimate $12.99 mo. / $19.99 mo.
Ecommerce $15.99 mo. / $24.99 mo.

Unless you already have a bunch of domains at GoDaddy and just need WordPress hosting for a single site, I would recommend Bluehost WP Pro.

Bluehost WP Pro vs HostGator

Like Bluehost, HostGator also has their own line of optimized WordPress hosting plans. However, like GoDaddy, HostGator limits the number of websites you can host with their WordPress plans. They have one, two, and three website plans.

Here’s how Bluehost WP Pro and HostGator compare by price (Signup Price / Renewal Price):

Bluehost HostGator
Build $19.95 mo. / $29.99 mo. Starter $5.95 mo. / $9.92 mo.
Grow $29.95 mo. / $39.99 mo. Standard $7.95 mo. / $15.90 mo.
Scale $49.95 mo. / $59.99 mo. Business $9.95 mo. / $23.14 mo.

Although HostGator’s prices are lower, they don’t include some of the premium features you would expect from a managed WordPress hosting plan such as automated data backup/restores and website staging.

For managed or optimized WordPress hosting, I would recommend Bluehost WP Pro over HostGator.

Bluehost Pricing: VPS Hosting

Bluehost VPS Hosting
While providing quality Shared Hosting is a big part of Bluehost’s success, you may not be aware that they also offer a top line of VPS Hosting plans that are very affordable. VPS Hosting allows you to enjoy many of the benefits of having your own web server—at a much lower cost.

Bluehost VPS Hosting Features

Bluehost VPS Hosting Prices
Bluehost offers three different VPS Hosting plans: Standard, Enhanced, and Ultimate.

Standard $18.99 mo.
The Bluehost Standard VPS Hosting plan includes 30 GB Storage, 2 GB of RAM, and 1 TB Bandwidth.

Enhanced $29.99 mo.
The Bluehost Enhanced VPS Hosting plan includes 60 GB Storage, 4 GB of RAM, and 2 TB Bandwidth.

Ultimate $59.99 mo.
The Bluehost Ultimate VPS Hosting plan includes 120 GB Storage, 8 GB of RAM, and 3 TB Bandwidth.

With VPS hosting, you get guaranteed resources that you don’t have to share with other customers. Also, with Bluehost VPS hosting you get root access so advanced users can have more control over the server. Like with their Shared Hosting, Bluehost provides an enhanced cPanel interface for VPS Hosting customers that also includes additional tools for VPS management and WHM.

Benefits of Bluehost VPS Hosting

Bluehost includes solid features with all of their VPS Hosting plans. Besides the features I mentioned above, the other big benefit you get with Bluehost VPS is instant provisioning. Whereas with some VPS Hosting, you have to wait quite a while for your account activation, Bluehost lets you get started right away.

How Does Bluehost VPS Hosting Compare to Others?

On the plus side, with Bluehost VPS Hosting you get solid features that help boost the performance of your websites. And, Bluehost VPS compares very favorably when it comes to pricing.

The only possible drawback is that Bluehost’s VPS Hosting plans are better suited for advanced and experienced users. Website owners that have never used VPS hosting may be better off with more of a managed VPS hosting plan.

Here are some Managed VPS Hosting alternatives and how they compare with Bluehost VPS:

Bluehost VPS vs A2 Hosting VPS

A2 Hosting’s Managed VPS is more expensive than Bluehost—except for their top-of-the-line Pinnacle+ plan. However, A2 offers more resources across the board including RAM, storage, bandwidth, and CPU cores. And, you also get managed VPS features with A2.

Here is how they compare by price (Signup Price / Renewal Price):

Bluehost A2 Hosting
Standard $18.99 mo. / $29.99 mo. Power+ $25.00 mo. / $49.99 mo.
Enhanced $29.99 mo. / $59.99 mo. Prestige+ $35.00 mo. / $69.99 mo.
Ultimate $59.99 mo. / $119.99 mo. Pinnacle+ $50.00 mo. / $99.99 mo.

Bluehost VPS vs InMotion Hosting VPS

InMotion Hosting’s Managed VPS includes cloud powered redundancy for better uptime. While their prices run higher than Bluehost, you get more resources with InMotion when it comes to RAM, storage, and bandwidth. You also get root access and can schedule snapshot server backups.

Here is how they compare by price (Signup Price / Renewal Price):

Bluehost InMotion Hosting
Standard $18.99 mo. / $29.99 mo. VPS-1000HA-S $22.99 mo. / $34.99 mo.
Enhanced $29.99 mo. / $59.99 mo. VPS-2000HA-S $34.99 mo. / $74.99 mo.
Ultimate $59.99 mo. / $119.99 mo. VPS-3000HA-S $54.99 mo. / $134.99 mo.

Bluehost VPS vs Liquid Web VPS

Liquid Web specializes in VPS and Dedicated hosting solutions. Liquid Web’s prices for VPS are significantly higher than Bluehost. RAM and CPU cores are about the same with Liquid Web as with Bluehost. However, you get more storage and bandwidth at Liquid Web.

Here is how they compare by price:

Bluehost Liquid Web
Standard $18.99 mo. / $29.99 mo. 2 GB RAM $59 mo.
Enhanced $29.99 mo. / $59.99 mo. 4 GB RAM $99 mo.
Ultimate $59.99 mo. / $119.99 mo. 8 GB RAM $139 mo.
16 GB RAM $189 mo.

Unlike their Shared and WordPress hosting plans, Bluehost VPS hosting is better suited to a very specific audience–in this case, more experienced website owners that are comfortable maintaining a VPS hosting account and want to save money.

Bluehost Pricing: Dedicated Hosting

Bluehost Dedicated Hosting
For the ultimate web hosting experience, Dedicated Hosting is still the best option for performance and control. And while having a dedicated server is more expensive than Shared or VPS hosting, Bluehost again offers very affordable Dedicated Hosting plans that provide the power, storage, and resources you would expect from a quality Dedicated Server package.

Bluehost Dedicated Hosting Features

Bluehost Dedicated Hosting Pricing
Bluehost offers three Dedicated Server Hosting Plans: Standard, Enhanced, and Premium.

Standard $79.99 mo.
Bluehost Standard Dedicated Server comes with 4 Cores, 500 GB Mirrored Storage, 4 GB RAM, and 5 TB Bandwidth.

Enhanced $99.99 mo.
Bluehost Enhanced Dedicated Server comes with 4 Cores, 1 TB Mirrored Storage, 8 GB RAM, and 10 TB Bandwidth.

Premium $119.99 mo.
Bluehost Premium Dedicated Server comes with 4 Cores @ faster GHz, 1 TB Mirrored Storage, 16 GB RAM, and 15 TB Bandwidth.

Because you get your own physical server, Bluehost’s Dedicated Hosting offers better control, performance, and security.

Benefits of Bluehost Dedicated Hosting

Bluehost’s Dedicated Hosting is structured similarly to their VPS Hosting. You get the same types of features, however because you actually have your own computer server to yourself, you can enjoy better website performance while having greater control.

How Does Bluehost Dedicated Hosting Compare to Others?

Again, as with their VPS Hosting services, when it comes to Dedicated Servers Bluehost offers a lower cost alternative compared to other web hosts. However, with other hosting companies like those below, you can get managed dedicated hosting with more resources—albeit at a higher price.

Bluehost Dedicated Hosting vs A2 Hosting

A2 Hosting offers different types of dedicated hosting, but their Managed Dedicated Servers are the most impressive plans. Although they cost more than Bluehost, the resources are more impressive and with HostGuard Management, your server is constantly monitored.

Here is how they compare by price:

Bluehost A2 Hosting
Standard $79.99 mo. Sprint $141.09 mo.
Enhanced $99.99 mo. Exceed $207.49 mo.
Premium $119.99 mo. Mach $290.49 mo.

Bluehost Dedicated Hosting vs InMotion Hosting

InMotion Hosting also offers a very impressive lineup of Dedicated Server plans. Again, while they cost significantly more than Bluehost, the specs are more impressive. And in fact, they also offer a premium line of dedicated servers with even more powerful resources.

Here is how they compare by price:

Bluehost InMotion Hosting
Standard $79.99 mo. Essential $139.99 mo.
Enhanced $99.99 mo. Advanced $189.99 mo.
Premium $119.99 mo. Elite $259.99 mo.

Bluehost Dedicated Hosting vs Liquid Web

Liquid Web specializes in Dedicated and VPS Hosting. They have perhaps the most extensive line of dedicated servers available. Again, while the resource features are higher than Bluehost, the prices are also higher. Also, be aware that Liquid Web does change an additional fee for managed dedicated hosting.

Here is how they compare by price:

Bluehost Liquid Web
Standard $79.99 mo. Intel Xeon 1230 $199 mo.
Enhanced $99.99 mo. Intel Xeon Silver 4108 $299 mo.
Premium $119.99 mo. Intel Xeon Gold 6130 $499 mo.

As with VPS Hosting, if you have the experience working with servers and want to save money, then Bluehost Dedicated Hosting is a good option. However, if you haven’t worked with a dedicated server before, I would recommend choosing a managed dedicated server plan.

Bluehost Pricing: Professional Services

Bluehost Professional Services
In addition to web hosting services, Bluehost now also offers other advanced services to help your websites be successful. Please note that because these are customized services, you’ll need to request a consultation for exact pricing.

Full-Service Website Development
If you need help in designing and building your website, Bluehost has a team of professional designers that can not only help build your site but also optimize it for searches and post your articles to social media.

SEO Services
Bluehost’s SEO services can help you optimize your website for the right keywords as well as create the right type of content for better search engine relevance. You can monitor your site’s progress with analytics and weekly reports to see how your keywords are performing.

PPC Marketing Services
If you’re interested in using pay per click ads, Bluehost can help you drive traffic to your site by creating ad campaigns and having them displayed in the proper locations.

Website Migration Services
While Bluehost will migrate most single websites for free, with their paid migration services you can have up to 5 websites migrated. Also, if you need a more customized migration, you may need to use this service.

Bluehost Customer Support

As I mentioned earlier, Bluehost has made great strides in its customer support services. My experiences have been all positive regarding response times and issue resolution when working with the Bluehost support agents

Bluehost Pricing: Conclusion

Whether you need Shared, WordPress, VPS, or Dedicated web hosting, Bluehost offers some of the best lower cost options for all platforms. And, Bluehost provides quality hosting options for both first-time website owner newbies as well as experienced site owners that need more powerful and comprehensive hosting features.
