Base44 Review (2026) – I Tested it and Here’s What I Found Out

After signing up for an account and thoroughly testing things out, I’ll show you actual performance test results and go over what Base44 actually does.

What is Vibe Coding All About?

First, let’s briefly go over what vibe coding is all about. Traditional website builders (Wix, SquareSpace, Shopify, etc.) use drag and drop editors to make things easier than simply coding the site yourself. These platforms, along with WordPress and others are now incorporating AI to make the site creation process even easier. And while these AI assisted site builders are an improvement, vibe coding goes way further.

With vibe coding, you simply have to describe (type or speak) what type of site you want, AI will build it, you test it out, request any changes needed, and AI will make the modifications. Base44 takes vibe coding even further by not only offering AI code generation, but also combining that with a managed development environment that includes hosting and visual interface tools.

You can start using Base44 for free. It’s a great opportunity to see how vibe coding works and if Base44 is the right platform for your particular type of website. While you can build your initial site with the Free Plan, you’ll want to at least opt for the Starter or Builder plans to create your production website.

Like other AI integrated tools, Base44 allots a certain number of credits you can use when building and modifying your websites. The number of monthly credits you receive depends on your website plan—ranging from 25 mo. message credits and 100 mo. integration credits with the Free Plan up to 1200 mo. message credits and 50,000 mo. integration credits with the Elite Plan.

Message credits are used when building, planning, updating, and fixing parts of your app/website. Integration credits are used for Base44 services such as generating images, sending emails, running LLM calls, and in-app agents.

Creating a Website with Base44

Using detailed instructions, I created a website/app using Base44 for my fictional business company ProHome Services. The initial site creation process took about 6 minutes. While Base44 is building and testing your site/app, you can see the process on the left hand side of the screen. Your completed site appears on the right.

I found the initial website that Base44 created to be very professional looking and better than I had expected. All the functionality I requested appeared on the site.

After creating my base website, I added additional functionality for booking appointments, setting up customer accounts, etc. It took just a few minutes for each module to be created. I like how you can view your progress on the left side of the Base44 dashboard. When the work is completed, you can immediately review the results.

Email testing: Initial email notifications did not work while using the Base44 setup. Connecting a custom domain resolved the issue, allowing transactional notifications to be delivered to both the customer and administrator.

One feature I really liked is how easy Base44 makes it to connect your own custom domain from GoDaddy to your Base44 website. The process only requires a couple of clicks and your domain is setup. It’s a much easier process than most hosting providers make it.

I am very impressed by the Base44 AI interface. It answered all of my questions promptly and accurately. And, I was easily able to request changes and modifications to my website/app. Backend functionality that in the past would take hours, can be added to your site in only a minute or two! Unlike other AI site generators I’ve tested out, Base44 definitely passes all tests.

Once you’ve tested your site and connected your domain, you can quickly and easily publish your website from the Base44 dashboard.

Creating an App with Base44

Once you’ve created your site with Base44, you can preview and test your app by using your website link and saving it to your phone’s home screen. Once your satisfied, you can publish your mobile app and generate your App Store or Google Play files. Keep in mind that to create a full-fledged mobile app on App Store or Google, you need to opt for the Base44 Builder plan or above.

Base44 Website Speed and Performance

I was pleasantly surprised and impressed with the speed and performance of my Base44 website. Traditional site builders, and even some of the newer AI assisted website builders, sometimes create bloated designs that don’t perform well. But in our testing, Base44 posted excellent speed test results in all regions of the U.S.

Page loading times and Core Web Vitals were excellent—particularly when you consider that the website/app we created with Base44 included transactional booking and estimates (i.e., it wasn’t just an online brochure type of site).

Base44’s TTFB (Time to First Byte) and Full Page Loading times are particularly impressive for a website builder.

Base44 Final Verdict

Base44 surpassed my expectations and is a legitimate option for creating websites and apps. In fact, it’s actually a recommended option for many people looking to get a website and or app online and running quickly.

Base44’s vibe coding platform has made creating a professional website and app incredibly quick and easy. The AI chatbot interface is the best I’ve encountered in a site builder tool. It only took about 6 minutes for my initial site to be generated. And, in total, it took less than an hour to build a full-fledged transactional booking and estimate site for a home repair business.

Website speed and performance is excellent. We tested out our Base44 site without requesting any extra optimization, and the results were as good as any site builder we’ve tested. We made the decision to test this way to get a truer picture of Base44’s raw speed and performance. But, with additional optimization, I would expect their sites to run even faster.

I would especially recommend Base44 to first time website owners, small and medium sized businesses, and those that need to create a mobile app for their business. Base44 is ideally suited for those users in particular.

Although you could use Base44 for enterprise applications, I would tend to hold off for now until Base44 has a longer track record. Also, if you require having more control over the backend of your sites, then Base44 probably isn’t the best choice, as backend processing is tied to their own ecosystem. In these cases, I would tend to look towards WordPress or another platform.

However, for creating professional websites and apps lightning fast, for those users I mentioned above, Base44 is excellent. I would definitely encourage you to at least try out the Base44 free plan.
