SiteGround posted some of the fastest results of all the managed WordPress hosts we’ve tested—including Media Temple. It actually isn’t close comparing the two head to head. For website speed and performance, SiteGround is the winner.

Both SiteGround and Media Temple offer true website staging. Unfortunately with SiteGround, you have to purchase their top level GoGeek plan. Media Temple on the other hand does include staging with both levels of their WordPress plans. And, Media Temple’s staging is very easy to use and works very well. So, because staging is more readily available with Media Temple, they are the winner in this category.

Data Backup and Restore

Data backup is another area where both SiteGround and Media Temple do a good job as both provide automatic daily backups and the ability to restore from the past 30 days. However, in this category SiteGround gets the edge since they recently included the ability to create on-demand data backups as well. So for data backup and restore, SiteGround is the winner.

Customer Support

Comparing customer support between SiteGround and Media Temple is closer than it was before. Media Temple has made some definite improvements with their live chat response times, as well as issue resolution. However, SiteGround is still the winner when it comes to support, as they continue to provide some of the most responsive, helpful, and friendly support of any web host.

Recommendation

While Media Temple has improved their managed WordPress hosting, this comparison with SiteGround still isn’t that close based on the above results and the fact that Media Temple surprisingly does not provide free SSL with all of their hosting plans. With the importance of https these days, it can definitely be a deal breaker when free SSL isn’t included.
