The Nexcess Data Backup and Restore features are excellent. The automatic daily backups are readily available from your dashboard. You can choose to restore both your website files and database or just one or the other.
You can also perform manual backups whenever you want. For example, if you want to download a copy of your website, you can run a manual backup then download it from there. While there is no set limit on the number of manual backups you can perform, keep in mind that these backup copies do count toward the amount of space your account is allocated. So, it’s recommended that you delete your manual backup copies as soon as you can.
Nexcess includes free Let’s Encrypt SSL which they can automatically install and renew for you.
You can create both a Development and a Staging Environment in Nexcess. The good news is that it’s very easy to create a staging copy of your website. And, as with your production websites, the provision time with staging environments is excellent. The only downside is that unlike some of the other Managed WordPress hosts, you’ll need to manually copy your changes from your staging site to your live production site. On one hand, this method does allow you to make minor adjustments to an area of your website with less chance of causing issues or conflicts elsewhere. However, if you’re making major changes to your site, then it would be easier to have an automated way to push them out to your live website at one time. Hopefully, Nexcess will add this option in the near future.
I really like the Nexcess Analytics feature that lets you easily view usage information such as your disk space, bandwidth, CDN, etc.
Website provision times have been greatly improved at Nexcess. My site was available within minutes. The only part that required a bit more effort was connecting an existing domain to my website. However, after editing the DNS records, I was good to go. If you need help, you can always contact customer support (as I did) and they will hep you get set up.
The Nexcess control panel dashboard gives you quick and easy access to your hosting account and website functionality. While experienced users shouldn’t have a problem, beginners may find it difficult to locate certain functions as there are multiple layers of menus on the left navigation panel.
Website Speed and Performance is another area where Nexcess is one of the best choices for WordPress hosting. It starts with their optimized servers. But Nexcess also includes advanced caching, a built-in content delivery network, and premium image compression. As a result, the website speed and page loading times you get with Nexcess are outstanding.
