Improved hardware has been one of the current trends with web hosting companies. A number of hosts are now adding solid state drives to their web servers for faster speed. InMotion Hosting was one of the first to offer SSDs free with their hosting plans. While InMotion has always been one of the top web hosting companies in my opinion, you might be curious to find out if solid state drives really make a difference with site performance.
New InMotion Hosting customers automatically have their sites placed on a server with SSD. If you’ve been an existing customer, such as me, you can quickly and easily request that your account be transferred to a solid state drive server by contacting customer support—which is what I did.
After having my account moved to SSD, I can already notice an improvement in site loading time just from a casual perspective—both on the front end and backend admin side. Again, my site speed with InMotion was always good, but it definitely seems even better now that my site is on a server with SSD.
For a more precise test, I’ve run a comparison using some online web page comparison tools. Here are my results before and after transferring to a server with SSD.
