DreamHost Debuts DreamPress 2 Hosting

The managed WordPress hosting arena continues to heat up for the summer as DreamHost has upgraded their DreamPress hosting plan. Named DreamPress 2, the new managed hosting plan for WordPress sites includes improved hardware together with new features like PHP 5.5 with OPcache and Facebook’s HHVM.

The original DreamPress hosting plan presented an intriguing alternative to some of the higher priced managed WordPress hosting plans. DreamPress 2 continues in that vein with a cost of $19.95 mo. and even better features.

DreamPress 2 Features

  • Virtual Private Servers
  • Solid State Drives
  • PHP 5.5 with OPcache
  • HHVM
  • Varnish Caching
  • Memcached
  • Automatic WordPress Installation
  • Automatic Core Updates
  • Automatic Daily Backups
  • Use Any Theme or Plugin
  • Dedicated IP
  • Web Application Firewall
  • DDoS Auto-Mitigation

If you’re currently a DreamPress 1 customer, your account will eventually be migrated over to DreamPress 2—after which DreamHost will retire the former plan.

We especially like that with DreamPress 2 your site is placed on a VPS machine with SSD. And unlike other more expensive WordPress hosting plans, with DreamPress 2 you can create unlimited email accounts, you get a dedicated IP, there are no restrictions on the themes or plugins you can use, and there aren’t strict limitations on the number of monthly visitors to your site.

At first look, DreamPress 2 appears to be a solid choice for many of those site owners looking for managed WordPress performance. Feature-wise, it includes the technology needed for better speed and page loading.

Those situations where DreamPress 2 might not be the optimal choice would be:

  • If you’re a developer needing to work on projects for multiple clients. You don’t get something like WP Engine’s Transferable Installs and Billing Transfer features—which can be a big help.
  • If version control of your website is critical. We prefer the staging area you get with other managed WordPress hosting plans.
  • If you need an enterprise level solution. Again, there are probably better options such as WP Engine.

However, for those that want managed hosting for a single WordPress site, DreamPress 2 is well worth considering.
