Whether you’re a working professional photographer or an avid hobbyist, sooner or later you’ll probably be looking to create a website for your photography business or have your own photo blog online to share your work. Since photography has been a big interest of mine for many years, I know there are some specific considerations when choosing web hosting for a photo site.
When it comes to web hosting, a photographer’s main concerns should be:
1. Storage
You definitely don’t want to be limited in the amount of images you can upload to your site. Fortunately, there are plenty of good unlimited types of hosting plans.
2. Website Tools
As a photographer, you might want to create your site with WordPress or some other content management system. Or, you may prefer the look of another website builder or add on gallery tool. Therefore, you should choose a web host that offers several options, so you can be sure to get just the right look you want.
3. Speed
Images are by far one of the main causes of slow loading websites. As a photographer, you’ll obviously have quite a few photos on your site. So, it makes sense to try and find a faster web hosting option. That doesn’t necessary mean you have to splurge on a dedicated server. My experience has been that there are certainly web hosting options that provide fast loading websites that don’t require that you spend big bucks for a dedicated or VPS plan.
Taking the above criteria into consideration, the two web hosting choices I like a lot for photography sites are InMotion Hosting and iPage.
InMotion Hosting features the following:
iPage Hosting offers the following:
