Both of these web hosts offer a wide range of hosting services including Shared, VPS, and Dedicated. InMotion seems to put a bit more emphasis on business web hosting, while 1&1 aims more for the newbie customers with their MyWebsite hosting package. On the other hand, 1&1 Hosting also provides some noteworthy features in their other web hosting plans. Also, keep in mind that InMotion Hosting recently added a number of premium features with their shared hosting plans.
InMotion Hosting and 1&1 Hosting both provide impressive features with their hosting packages. InMotion gets higher marks on the value scale across the board with their business hosting plans. With 1&1, you’ll need to purchase their Performance Plan to get some of the premium features. I also like InMotion for their excellent live chat support and longer refund period. And, I prefer cPanel as my interface—which you get with InMotion Hosting.
1&1 Hosting’s best offerings seem to be on the newbie level with their MyWebsite plans—where your website is generated for you after supplying some information. As I mentioned, on the other end, their Performance hosting plan is also impressive—but it will cost you more money.
For most website owners, I think InMotion Hosting is the better overall choice between these two. The inclusion of solid state drives and pre-installation of WordPress, Joomla, or PrestaShop are more reasons that InMotion gets the edge here.
