WP Engine to Include SSL with All Hosting Plans

UPDATE: Despite what was announced at WordCamp SD, it appears that you still have to pay an additional fee for SSL.

Think having SSL is important? WP Engine certainly does. If you have or are thinking of creating a WordPress site, you might be interested to know that industry leading Managed WordPress Hosting company WP Engine will now include SSL with all of their hosting plans—including their Personal Hosting plan.

At a WordPress conference in San Diego, CA, this past weekend, Jason Cosper, Developer Advocate at WP Engine, made the announcement during his presentation on website security and SSL.

While it’s been standard practice for ecommerce sites and websites with sensitive information to use SSL, there has been a push lately for all sites to use https—especially since Google has stated a preference for more secure websites.

For WordPress sites, Jason stressed the importance of using SSL for your WP login and admin side. However, as far as securing your entire site with SSL (including pages with non-sensitive information), you might want to think twice. According to Jason, there could be a performance hit for your logged in users with SSL. So in addition to it being somewhat of a headache to secure your entire site with SSL, there also may be a tradeoff with the security you get versus your site speed.

But, as far as installing SSL for your WordPress login and admin, you can now get expert hosting and SSL with all plans at WP Engine.
