Web Hosting News and Notes for April 2015

iPage has changed their money back guarantee. Previously, they had an Anytime Money Back Guarantee—where you could get a pro-rated refund at any time during your account term. It has now been changed to a more standard 30 Day Money Back Guarantee.

GoDaddy’s IPO has been in the headlines lately. After the initial, and probably expected, rise after the first public offering price, the stock has traded in the $25 to $27 range. While I have no idea whether the stock will continue to climb or drop, it does appear that GoDaddy has made some progress in revamping their image via improved marketing and better product deals and support.

As we reported earlier this month, WP Engine is now including SSL with all of their hosting plans.

For Drupal website owners and users planning to attend DrupalCon in Los Angeles next month, look for web hosting companies such as SiteGround, InMotion Hosting, Arvixe, and Bluehost—some of the sponsors of the event. This will be a good opportunity to find out which web host has the right Drupal hosting for you.

And finally, don’t forget that Google’s Mobile Site Update is right around the corner. This updated algorithm will give a boost in the search rankings to websites that are mobile-friendly. The good news is that if you already use a content management system such as WordPress and a responsive theme, you’re already set. Also, a number of web hosting companies, such as GoDaddy, iPage, and 1&1 provide site builders with their hosting plans that will also create sites that are mobile ready.
