Installing SolidWP and Wordfence is very easy. In both cases, there is minimal setup needed on your part to start protecting your WordPress sites. The free versions can each be installed from the WordPress.org plugin repository, or you can download them from the respective websites.
I was impressed with both of these security tools. In separate testing, after installing Solid Security and Wordfence, I was immediately notified of any security issues occurring. Both Wordfence and SolidWP were able to protect against brute force attacks and also notified me about plugin issues.
In this category, I give Wordfence a slight edge. I found their email alert reports a bit more detailed and helpful. Also, I found the Wordfence user interface a little more intuitive.
SolidWP and Wordfence both utilize ticket based customer support with their premium paid plans. With the free version of Wordfence, you are limited to support via volunteer forums. However, along with ticket based support with their Premium plan, Wordfence also offers priority ticket support with their Wordfence Care plan and 1-hour response time with their Wordfence Response plan.
In our testing, Solid Security and Wordfence both proved to be effective in protecting WordPress websites. In this comparison, we would recommend Wordfence for overall WordPress security based on features, easy installation and setup, email security alerts, and a more intuitive user interface.
If you’re looking for more of an all around site management tool that includes security as well as multisite management and data backups, then I would recommend going with SolidWP.
However, if your primary interest is getting the best WordPress application level security tool, then I would go with Wordfence. Overall, for security Wordfence is the winner here. See our Wordfence Review Ratings below.
