After an apparently successful beta period, iPage has announced that their premium WordPress hosting plan (WP Essential) is now live. I recently wrote about this new offering from iPage and highlighted some of the features. We now have a more detailed picture of exactly what you get with WP Essential.
The emphasis of WP Essential is enhanced speed, security, and support for your WordPress sites. iPage states that site speeds can be up to 60% faster with WP Essential. While every situation may be different and not everyone’s site may achieve this much of a speed increase due to a number of reasons, I do like the steps they’ve taken. First, they have fine-tuned their SSD infrastructure. Also, they have implemented a content delivery network and a fast caching layer. In addition, with WP Essential, there will be fewer customers on each server which should improve speed.
For added security, iPage has teamed with SiteLock to include an added layer of protection. This extra security will scan for malware and eliminate threats. WP Essential hosting also comes with a firewall to guard against spam.
When you upgrade to WP Essential, you’ll get a more streamlined user interface to make things more convenient. More importantly, you also get specially trained WordPress support staff with a direct phone line.
For me, iPage has proven to be a top web hosting provider. Now, with the addition of a premium WordPress hosting service, it appears they are primed to compete with the other recent WP hosting offerings from companies such as DreamHost and Go Daddy. Because WP Essential is an upgrade service, you’ll need to be an existing iPage customer or sign up for the standard iPage hosting plan first and then add WP Essential. iPage already offers one of the best budget plans at $1.99 mo. So, even with the additional $4.95 mo. for WP Essential, your total monthly cost will still be much lower than other managed WordPress Hosting plans.
