How Does Web Hosting Hub Really Compare?

Many web hosting companies show comparison charts on their websites promoting the ways in which they are superior to other web hosts. Are these comparisons valid? Web Hosting Hub is one such company that has a comparison chart on their site. Let’s go through it and see how accurate the information really is. First, full disclosure here, I use Web Hosting Hub myself (as well as some of the other companies in their comparison chart).

On the chart, Web Hosting Hub compares themselves with four other hosts: JustHost, Bluehost, Fat Cow, and iPage. And the companies are given three possible ratings: Ideal, Less Than Ideal, and Unacceptable.

The first category is 24/7 Toll Free In-House U.S. Support. All web hosts with the exception of JustHost are rated as Ideal. Of course the fact that a company has 24/7 support doesn’t necessarily mean you get great support. But in the case of Web Hosting Hub, I’ve been very satisfied.

The next category is Unlimited Disk Space and Bandwidth. This is pretty standard among top website hosting companies these days. And sure enough, all of the companies listed are rated as Ideal.

The next category is very interesting: Full Money Back Guarantee. What happens if you really hate your web host and want out? Web Hosting Hub has a 90 Day guarantee. Fat Cow is listed as having a 30 Day guarantee. And the other three companies are listed as “Pro-Rated Only”. But really they should be listed as “Any Time Money Back” guarantee. This could really be more advantageous to you. It really depends on how you look at it. With Hub, you can get all of your money back, but only before 90 days. With Bluehost, iPage, and JustHost, you won’t get a full refund, but at least you can get some money back if you decide to change before your plan is up.

Next is Advanced Security w/suPHP. Web Hosting Hub and JustHost are rated as Ideal and the other three are rated Unacceptable. However, it should be noted that iPage gives you Site Lock Security with your hosting.

Another interesting category is Comprehensive Email Functionality where Web Hosting Hub, JustHost, and Bluehost are rated as Ideal. Unfortunately, there isn’t any explanation of what they mean by “comprehensive”. I haven’t had any issues with Web Hosting Hub email, but I’ve also been satisfied with iPage as well.

For the Premium Website Builder category, Web Hosting Hub only rate themselves as Ideal with the others listed as Less Than Ideal. Truthfully, I’ve not used the website builder from Hub so I’m not sure if this rating is correct or not. iPage does give you two different website builders. So, it’s probably a case of personal preference here.

The last two categories are also interesting. For 100% Factory Tested Dell Servers, both Hub and iPage are listed as Ideal with the others listed as Unacceptable. Indeed, I’ve been very pleased with the speed and performance of Web Hosting Hub and iPage. However, depending on your opinion of Dell, this may or may not be a good thing.

Finally, for Green Data Technology, Hub and Fat Cow are listed as Ideal, with iPage listed as Less Than Ideal, and the others as Unacceptable. Web Hosting Hub does have a great overall eco-strategy. If green tech is high on your list, give Hub some extra points.

Tough I don’t totally agree with the Web Hosting Hub comparison chart, I think most of it is accurate. The real question though is: Are the categories listed the ones you should be considering when doing your shopping for web hosting? In some cases, I would say no—at least not when you’re starting out. I’d recommend a plan similar to the one I wrote about recently. Here’s the link.

That being said, I do think Web Hosting Hub is a great choice to host your site. You do get a lot of value in their hosting plan and I’ve been very satisfied so far. If you’re looking for an unlimited hosting plan with great features and support, I’d recommend you check them out.
